session id changed: A to B (Whats the meaning of this logs)

Hi Team,

I have notice in the dashboard logs that for some people we get logs like session id changed: Session ID 1 to Session ID 2. Can you please explains whats the meaning of this and in which scenario it happens. For example

The last log of https://dashboard.daily.co/sessions/f00c9676-a545-4938-bd8c-9a629f744c45/9e824c9f-ff01-4f59-85cb-22a3b742f341 is the first log of https://dashboard.daily.co/sessions/33f4b4a4-9b6b-44b8-87c1-d4b2b797dbfc/9e824c9f-ff01-4f59-85cb-22a3b742f341

For this participant his session got changed to a new one where he remains active for 12 hrs. This is happening in some of the rooms with some participants. Is it something wrong from our side or your side. Please help.

    Hi!

The meeting session ID can change for a few reasons (more details in our docs page near the bottom of this page):

    • A second participant joins the room prior to the 30 seconds.
    • A participant remains in a room alone for 10 minutes after all others have left
    • A single participant joins the room and has been alone for 30 seconds.

It looks like the participant ID matches between the two meeting IDs you shared, so if a single user remained in a session for longer than 10 minutes, that's likely why a new session ID was generated.

We're also thinking of ways we can improve this functionality, including adding the option to modify or disable the automatic change behavior, or add the ability to manually trigger a new ID generation. If you have any feedback, we'd love to hear it!
